Bentley Golf Club was the venue for the first of our Charity Golf Days where 62 golfers gathered to enjoy a course which, despite the lack of any appreciable rain, was in excellent condition. The weather forecast for the day did not inspire much confidence but having enjoyed coffee and bacon rolls, the field set off for a 9 hole Texas Scramble. After a light lunch the early groups teed off for an 18 hole individual and team Stableford competition but no sooner had they done so than the heavens opened and within 10 minutes ducks were surfing and swimming on the 4th green and the 18th green had been transformed into a pond. The club professional then closed the course declaring it unplayable!
Thus it was that the golf came to a premature and sad conclusion but in the prevailing spirit of the day everyone stayed on for an earlier than planned four course evening meal. Thanks to the generosity of Bentley GC, all of the golfers who braved the elements and some additional evening guests the event managed to raise the magnificent sum of £2,000 for Kids in Need. Our sincere thanks go to everyone for their support, tolerance and kindness on what proved to be a wet and frustrating day.
